ALBANY, NEW YORK---Freshman Paul Gilhuley and junior Atoya Webb led the way for the St. Francis College men’s and women’s cross squads as both squads finished 19th among 24 scoring teams at the 43rd UAlbany Invitational held on a campus course on Saturday, October 17th.
Marist, ranked 12th in the latest USTFCCCA Division I Northeast Region poll, won the men's team championship over the Rochester Institute of Technology. Plattsburgh State's Mike Heymann claimed the individual title for navigating the 8,000-meter course in 24:32.6, which was nine seconds shy of the meet record. Middlebury College, a Division III program which was ranked seventh nationally by the USTFCCA, took the women’s title over Marist. Colgate’s Elise DeRoo crossed the tape first in 17:28.7 to win the individual championship.
Gilhuley, a freshman from Bishop Ford High School, has continued to put up stellar times in his first cross country season as a Terriers, as he finished the 8K run in 20th place with a time of 25:38.1. Webb, a junior from Queens, NY, posted a time of 19:50.5 in the 5K Bobbi Palma Women’s Championship run.
In addition to the championship races, Anthony Morales and Anthony Andrews of the men’s squad ran in the Men’s Purple 8K race, as Morales posted a time of 31:13.4 while Andrews finished with a time of 32:56.5.
The Terriers will begin their championship portion of the schedule when they travel to compete at the Northeast Conference Championships on Saturday October 31st. The Quinnipiac Bobcats will host the event in Hamden, Connecticut.
