TERRIERS FALL 6-1 DESPITE WINNING AT # 1 SINGLES

West Hartford, CT – The St. Francis College women’s tennis squad are still in search of their first victory of the 2009 season, as they fell to the Hartford Hawks 6-1 on October 2nd at the Hartford Tennis Courts. 
Hartford scored victories in all three doubles matches and won five of the six singles matches.

In doubles play all three matches were won by an 8-1 final.
Haley Gileau and Nicole Haynal combined to win at number one doubles, defeating Arianna Van Sluytman and Renee Warner. Kaitlin Lennon and Margaret Potkay won at number two doubles, defeating Colene Alexis and Shakaya Slay. Emily Willhoft and Emily Menafra scored the final doubles victory, winning at number three doubles over Angel Lawrence and Shimiere Douglas.

The only loss in singles play came in the number one position, while Gileau fell to Van Sluytman by straight sets of 6-0, 6-0. Haynal and Lennon picked up victories and second and third singles, respectively. Haynal defeated Alexis by scores of 6-4, 6-4 at number two singles, while Lennon defeated Slay at third singles by scores of 6-0, 6-1.

Potkay topped Lawrence at fourth singles by scores of 6-0, 6-2, while
Gulay Ozdemir defeated Douglas in fifth singles after Douglas retired in the second set. Ozdemir won the first set by a 6-0 score. Willhoft rounded out the singles matches for Hartford, defeating Ashley Del Orbe by straight sets of 6-0, 6-0.

Athletes of the Week
Anisa Lila
Volleyball
Lila becomes the first Terrier volleyball player to win an NEC weekly honor since the 2000 season. She was able to record 65 kills and 51 digs as the Terriers went 2-2 at its own Terrier Invitational this past weekend.
