Marko Gencic scored 6 goals against Iona.
Freshman Marko Gencic scored six goals to help lead the St. Francis (NY) Terriers (11-6) to a 19-14 victory over the Iona Gaels (7-14), Saturday evening at St. Francis College.
The Terriers raced out to a 6-2 advantage after the opening quarter as Filip Sasic and Alexandar Pantic each delivered a pair of goals. The Terriers outscored the Gaels by the same 6-2 margin in the second stanza to take a 12-4 lead at halftime. Gencic scored three goals in the period.
Iona made a game of it in the third quarter as they sliced the Terrier lead to 14-10 after three quarters, outscoring the hosts by a 6-2 margin.
The Terriers scored three of the first four goals in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach at 17-11 with just 2:05 remaining in the contest. Gencic scored two goals and brother Stefan Gencic added his third goal of the game during the run.
Junior Nikola Djuric made 12 saves in goal.
Pedja Predin and Pantic each added three goals.
Seth Tasman scored a game-high 7 goals for Iona.
