The St. Francis College women’s basketball team fell to the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers, 61-33, on Thursday evening at the Pope Physical Education Center. The Terriers stand at 1-17 overall; 0-7 in NEC play while the Mountaineers are now 3-4 in the conference and 7-10 overall. The Mount swept the season-series with the Terriers.
The Terriers jumped out to a 5-2 edge in the first four minutes of the game. Freshman Autumn Lau and the Mount’s Sandra Andresson traded baskets to start the contest before Stefanie Bingham hit the backend of two free throws at the17:10 mark. Lau nailed a jumper from the wing at 16:04 for a three-point Terrier edge.
St. Francis (N.Y.) momentarily halted the Mount's run with a free throw at the 4:44 mark, but Mount St. Mary's ended the final 3:38 of the half on a 12-3 run to go into the locker room with a 36-16 lead. In the second half, Kim Snauwaert scored the first basket of the second half to cut the margin to 36-18. The Mount then scored the next six points to restore the 20-point lead and the Terriers could not cut it any closer the rest of the way.
Lau finished with 10 points and six rebounds in thirty-five minutes of action. Dunn, for the Mount, ended the contest with a game-high 17 points and 12 rebounds in twenty-nine minutes of action, while teammate Cassie Cooke added 10 points and four steals.
The Terriers return to action on Saturday against the Wagner Seahawks at 2:00 pm while the Mount make the short trip down Fulton Street to square off against Long Island.
