MOON TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA---The Lady Terriers were defeated by the Robert Morris Colonials by a 72-36 margin at the Sewall Center on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Terriers fell to 1-20 overall and 0-10 in the Northeast Conference while the Colonials improved their record to 14-7 overall and 9-1 in conference play.
St. Francis remained close with the Colonials in the early portion of the contest trailing 13-10 at the 15:00 mark after junior guard Tiara Dunson converted a three-pointer. The Colonials went on a 20-0 run that stretched over a seven minute period to extend the Robert Morris lead to 34-10. Robert Morris entered the locker room with a 45-23 lead as three Colonials reached double-figures in the first half.
The Colonials came out in the second half and continued to control the tempo and momentum of the contest. After Shannon Gantt converted on 1-of-2 attempts from the charity stripe, the Colonials held the Terriers without a field goal for thirteen minutes in the second half and outscored the visitors by an 18-0 margin. Freshman Autumn Lau hit a running jumper in the paint to stop the run.
Three Colonials finished in double-figures, with Vega Gimeno-Martinez leading all scorers with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting in 31 minutes of play. Anna Gailite, making her first start for the home team, added 15 points and seven rebounds in 27 minutes of play. Angela Pace, the team’s leading scorer, reached her average, netting 13 points and pulling down a game-high eight rebounds.
Gantt led all Terriers with 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Tiara Dunson added seven points while freshman Amber Lau pulled down a career high seven rebounds. The Terriers will return home on Thursday, February 4th as they host the Long Island University in the 17th annual “Battle of Brooklyn.”
