BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NEW YORK---The St. Francis College Terriers square off against the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights in Northeast Conference double-header from the Pope Physical Education Center. Today is the 3rd Annual “Shoot For A Cure,” sponsored by Barclays Nets Community Alliance.
St. Francis College dedicates today in memory of Brenda Weare, Commissioner of the Northeast Conference, who passed away on Saturday, June 13th after a courageous battle with synovial cell sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. She was 51 years old.
In the first game of the afternoon, the Lady Terriers will look to bounce back after falling to Monmouth University on Thursday night. The Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson are looking to rebound after a heartbreaking one point defeat at the hands of Long Island on Thursday evening.
Over on the men’s side, St. Francis came within a last second tip-in on Thursday night, as the Terriers fell to Monmouth 51-49. The Terriers had an opportunity to send the game into overtime but missed two great looks at the basket in the closing seconds. St. Francis elected not to call timeout and executed a well-executed play as Cadell got free along the left sideline and drove to the bucket for a chance at the equalizer. However, his layup rimmed out of the hoop and Bennett’s follow did the same at the buzzer.
The Knights enter in a three-way tie for the fifth spot in the Northeast Conference playoff hunt, but have dropped their last two contest. This will be the only time these two squads will meet this season. St. Francis looks to snap a three-game slid while improving their playoff hopes.
All the action can be seen live on the Terrier Sports Network as Seth Cantor brings you all the action from the Pope PE Center. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 pm in the women’s contest with the men to follow approximately half an hour at the conclusion of the women’s contest.
