SMYRNA, TENNESSEE---The 11th-ranked St. Francis College women's bowling team won two of six traditional team matches on day one of the Columbia 300/Music City Classic, hosted by Vanderbilt University at Smyrna Lanes in Smyrna, Tennessee.
Florida A&M 875, St. Francis 853
The day began with a 22-pin loss to the Rattlers, despite a 211 from freshman Kristina Terpo and a 189 by freshman Alyson Piergiovanni. The Terriers were ranked eighth of the 20 teams in total pinfall after this match, as they ran into a Florida A&M team which was hot down the stretch in this match.
New Jersey City University 915, St. Francis 791
In a match which was deceptively close until the final frame, Piergiovanni led the Terriers with a 184 and Terpo shot a 166. A slow start put St. Francis into a 50-pin hole early, but the Terriers closed the deficit to less than 20 in the eighth frame.
Alabama A&M 964, St. Francis 867
Junior Julia Petosa bowled her first game of the day and led the Terriers with a 191 while Terpo and senior Alexandra Stein each shot scores of 176. St. Francis bowled well, but the Terriers were done in by Alabama A&M's anchor bowler who fired a 248.
St. Francis 845, Hampton 824
Stein led the way for the Terriers with a 222 as the team gained its first win of the day over the Lady Pirates. In a close match throughout, St. Francis pulled away in the final frame to a 21-pin victory.
St. Francis 861, Kutztown 856
Stein fired a 211, including four consecutive strikes to end the match. The match was tied after nine frames, and Stein needed two strikes and a seven count in the tenth to clinch the victory, and did so with three strikes. Piergiovanni added a 195 in the thriller of the day.
Louisiana Tech 898, St. Francis 874
Despite their highest game of the day, the Terriers came up 24 pins short against the Lady Techsters. Piergiovanni led the way with a 208 and Stein added a 191 for St. Francis.
Action continues on Saturday with six quad Baker matches. The Terriers will face Adelphi University, Arkansas State University, Delaware State University, Morgan State University, and the University of Minnesota-Mankato, and then a to be determined opponent in a position match.
