Regina Toth scored a career-high 4 goals against Wagner
St. Francis (NY) (1-11)captured their first victory of the season with a 9-4 MAAC win against Villanova at Marist on Sunday morning. The Terriers were edged by Wagner, 11-10, on Sunday afternoon.
The Terriers jumped out to a 3-0 advantage against the Wildcats and never trailed the rest of the way. Andrea Dolnay scored two consecutive goals after Ana Milicev opened the scoring 36 seconds into the match. Villanova closed within 4-3 early in the second quarter but Thalita Paladino responed with back-to-back goals to give the Terriers some breathing room at 6-3 with 1:31 left in the half. Dolnay scored the first two goals of the third period and Milicev added another to put the game out or reach at 9-3 late in the third period. Dolnay finished with four goals and Milicev and Paladino each added a pair.
St. Francis nearly pulled out a great comeback against Wagner in the final game of the weekend but fell just a goal short. The Terriers trailed 9-4 late in the third quarter but went on a 4-1 run to close within 10-8 with 1:59 remaining in the contest. The Seahawks scored a huge goal just five seconds later to extend their lead to 11-8. Dolnay ripped the back of the next at the 1:23 mark and then again with 59 seconds left to trim the deficit to just 11-10, but the Terriers were unable to get the equalizer in the closing seconds. Regina Toth scored a career-high four goals and Dolnay added three tallies.
