WOMEN'S WATER POLO DROPS OVERTIME HEARTBREAKER TO IONA, 18-16

Senior Lianna Fotia scored five goals for the Terriers.
St. Francis (NY) dropped a heartbreaking 18-16 overtime decision against Iona on Saturday morning at St. Francis College. The Terriers fell to 1-12 (1-6 MAAC) and Iona improved to 18-12 (6-1 MAAC).
The Terriers appeared to have won the game with just 14 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter as senior Lianna Fotia fired a laser into the upper left corner of the net to give the hosts a 14-13 lead. But Iona sophomore Mackenzie Mone answered with just three seconds left in regulation to force overtime. Mone lofted a long shot into the upper right corner just past the outstretched arms of Terriers’ sophomore keeper Nofar Hagag.
The Gaels took a 15-14 lead with 1:38 remaining in the first overtime period as junior Maggie Wood scored on a fast-break. The visitors extended their lead to 16-14 with 2:16 remaining in the second overtime as senior Meghan Keller beat Hagag.
St. Francis closed within 16-15 after junior Andrea Dolnay hit the back of the net with 2:01 left in the contest, but Mone came right back 22 seconds later to extend Iona’s lead to 17-15.
The Terriers did not go away as senior Lianna Fotia pulled them within 17-16 with 1:18 remaining. However, Wood scored with just 57 seconds left to give Iona the final goal of the game.
Fotia scored five goals for St. Francis and Dolnay added three. Cecelia Leonard scored a game-high seven goals to pace the Gaels.
Kacie Davis made five saves in goal for St. Francis.
