MEN'S TRACK COMPETES AT YALE SPRINGTIME INVITATIONAL IN PREPARATION FOR NEC OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Freshman Joseph Gilhuley finished second in the 800 and 1500 run at Yale Springtime Invitational

NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT---In preparation for the 2010 Northeast Conference Championship, the St. Francis College men’s track and field team participated at the Yale Springtime Invitational, which was held at the Dewitt Cuyler Athletic Complex. 

 

Senior Matthew Megerdichian (Queens, New York/Archbishop Molloy) participated in two events, placing in the Top 20 in the Discus Throw (31.39 m) and the Hammer Throw (45.13 m).

 

Freshman Aboshioma Obemeata (New Rochelle, NY/Iona Prep) jumped to a third place finish in the Long Jump event, posting a mark of 6.53 meters.  Fellow freshmen Joseph Gilhuley (Brooklyn, New York/Bishop Ford) and Brian Nersten (Brooklyn, New York/Xaverian) finished second and ninth respectively in the 1500 meter run with Gilhuley posting a time of 3:56.54.  In doing so, Gilhuley set a new St. Francis College outdoor mark, surpassing sophomore Rafal Kspeka mark and being the second member of the Terriers to qualify for Junior Nationals.  He also posted a second place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:53.56.

 

Rounding out the events for the Terriers, senior Daquan Messey finished the 400m IH  with a time of 55:46 and led the 4 x 400 squad to a second place finish.  The team, comprised of Massey, seniors Kiechen Smith, Anthony Andrews, and sophomore Rafal Kspeka posted a time of 3:24.35.

 

The Terriers will head to Emmitsburg, Maryland for the 2010 NEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 1 & 2.
