WOMEN'S TRACK COMPETES AT YALE SPRINGTIME INVITATIONAL TO PREPARE FOR NEC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Alexandra Delacruz recorded a new personal best in 1500 meters at the Yale Springtime Invitational

NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT---In preparation for the 2010 Northeast Conference Championship, the St. Francis College women’s track and field team participated at the Yale Springtime Invitational, which was held at the Dewitt Cuyler Athletic Complex. 

 

Junior Melissa Johnson (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville High School) participated in her first event of the season, finishing in the Top 20 in the Discus Throw with a mark of 34.61 meters.   In the long jump event, junior Jasmine Brown (New York, NY/AP Randolph) leaped to the Terriers second Top 20 performance, jumping 4.64 meters.

 

In the 4 x 100 event, the Terriers had Vanecia Hoyte (Brooklyn, New York/Bishop Ford), Jordhan Kerridge (Bronx, New York), Serena Warner (Queens, New York/Forest Hill HS) and junior Gina Giles (Brooklyn, New York/Beach Channel High School) finished the event in fifth place with a time of 52.00.

 

Rounding out the events, Alexandra Delacruz (Brooklyn, New York/Bishop Ford) finished the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:02.02, setting a new personal best in the event.  Freshman Mary Gallagher (Brooklyn, New York/Bishop Kearney) set a new personal record in the 800 meter with a time of 2:25.69

 

The 4 x 400 event saw junior Atoya Webb (Queens, New York/Jamaica HS), Jasmine Murdock (Brooklyn, New York/Bishop Loughlin), freshman Jasmin Viera (Staten Island, New York/Curtis) and Delacruz finished the event in fifth place with a time of 4:13.83.

 

The Terriers will head to Emmitsburg, Maryland for the 2010 NEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 1 & 2.
