EASTON, PENNSYLVANIA---The St. Francis College women’s volleyball team picked up their first road victory of the season, as they defeated the Lafayette Leopards, 3-1 (22-25; 25-21; 25-23; 25-19) in Easton, Pennsylvania on Monday evening. With the win, the Terriers improve their record to 3-2 on the season while Lafayette falls to 0-1 to open the 2010 season.
Senior Anisa Lila (Thessaloniki, Greece/Palm Beach CC), the reigning Co-Molten/NEC Player of the Week, recorded a double-double, with 19 kills and 13 digs to lead the way for the Terriers. Sophomore Mariana Georgieva (Sofia, Bulgaria/Tulsa University) had 19 digs and 13 kills.
Freshman Christina Perez (Woodhaven, NY/Archbishop Molloy) continues to excel as her service ace in the third set sealed the point for the Terriers, as she finished the night with 11 kills. Senior setter Maria Kashavelova (Sofia, Bulgaria/University of South Alabama) added a match high 42 assists while classmate Liliana Rodriguez (Linden, New Jersey/Linden) chipped in with 17 digs.
Leading the way for Lafayette was Sarah Frohnapfel finishing with 38 assists. Kayly Elmer had a team-high 19 kills and 14 digs.
The Terriers will next be in action on September 3rd and 4th as they head to Queens, for the St. John’s Invitational. They will square off against the University of Denver at 7:00 pm on the third, host St. John’s at 10:00 am on the fourth followed by a 1:00 pm meeting with Columbia University and finally wrapping up against Manhattan at 5:00 pm.
